It is very common for you to think that there isn't enough time for you to do all you have to do in a day after all you only have 24 hours in a day and you spend at least 6-8 hours sleeping even less. The question is how do you maximize the remaining 16 hours being productive and actually getting a lot more work done. Productivity plays a vital role in the success of a business or an individual. There are certain things that mess up your productivity everyday and these things are unnecessary things you often times do subconsciously without thinking about it. I can assure you that if cut these out of your life, you would get a lot more done.

1. Social Media Trap
Lol... guilty right? Almost everyone including myself at some point has fallen into this trap. In our quest to get on top of trending gist, news and topics we often times get extremely distracted wasting away productive hours that we should be using to get more work done.

I can hear a tiny whisper saying "but i need social media for my business" Yes, social media is necessary for the growth of your business, but you need to use it efficiently. Reading articles and watching videos not relating to your line of business is not a way to help your business.

2. Multitasking
I am very sure you might have used this phrase during a job interview "I am very good at multitasking" because you felt having the ability to multitask made a time saver yea? Well its been found that the opposite is true. You can't effectively do more than one thing at a time because your brain becomes fatigued very quickly when you attempt to multitask hence productivity and efficiency decline. Focus on doing one thing at a time, complete a task and move to the next. This will give you better results.

3. Socializing At Work
While building relationships and bonds with colleagues at work is very important, it is also important to know to avoid long conversations that take up a lot time. Some people will wear headphone when they're deeply involved with work to avoid unnecessary chatting and distractions.

4. Online Distractions
Not only do you have social media to contend with but also the internet. There are many things on the internet that will distract you. You start with checking a particular website for information and then one thing leads to another you find yourself on a different pages totally different from where you started. You might not realize how much time you have wasted until you are far deep into it. Some companies go as far as to put a website blockers on some websites to stop employees from accessing them. Commit to your work time and don't deviate from that.

5. Meeting Without Purpose
Meetings are very important for effective communication with your team but many meetings are pointless and just waste time. Meetings should be reserved for sharing relevant information and collaborating on important decisions. Ensure that the meetings you attend or hold will have an agenda and a moderator, that way everyone stays on task and reduces the time a meeting takes.

6. Taking Too Many Breaks
If you are in the habit of leaving your work too many times a day whether is going out to lunch or to the toilet or you always find an excuse to get away from work, you will find that you never feel focused enough to tackle deep work because you don't get your mind into it.

7. Disorganized Workspace
If your work table or space is chaotic, your mind will be chaotic. Toss out those little bits of paper with passwords and updates. Put them some place out of view. Make sense of what you require around your work area, and move what isn't serving you. Compose your work area so you know where critical things are. This is an approach to enhance every day productivity.

If you can avoid these time wasters, you should be able to get more done. Truthfully, it is not easy but if you put your mind to it with subtle daily changes you can be more productive.
